Lanetta Thomas

I'm Lanetta Thomas, a proud Chicago native with a passion for education, advocacy, and community empowerment. My journey in activism began during my junior year at Percy L. Julian High School, where I joined forces with my peers to address issues affecting students and families in our community.

Since then, I've been deeply involved in grassroots movements, including my work with SOUL (Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation), where I've dedicated myself to advocating for racial justice, economic equity, and educational opportunity.

As a disabled veteran and a mother of four, two of whom have special needs, my personal experiences have fueled my passion for ensuring that every child has access to quality education and support services. I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Outside of my advocacy work, I am also a dedicated community member, actively involved in organizations such as Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc., MIG (Model Illinois Government), and the Student Senate at my university. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, good eats, music, reading, studying ancestral history,  and I am always looking for ways to give back to my community and make a positive impact.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I'm excited to connect with you and share more about my journey and the causes I'm passionate about. Let's work together to create a brighter future for our city and our children.
